My invention achieves the same result as one that's already been patented. The difference is I am using a non-sensor approach on one of two ends of the device while the "other guy's" widget uses sensors on both ends. He claims in his patent that anything that accomplishes the desired result is protected under his claims. Am I dead in the water and should not try to submit my patent?
Your insight would be very appreciated.

Well its kind of hard for me to answer that, because i know you are not fully disclosing the infromation that is nessary to give me a clear understanding.
If you are serous about pursuing this project, consult your patent lawyer or agent.
But i think you might be able to file the patent.
May be you should go to a lawyer forum. for free tips from real a lawyer. Before going to your local lawyer.
