I would like to know who to contact to get my idea patented without having to make a prototype. I can't afford one right now. I would like to know how to contact a company to lease the patent to develop my idea.

On the internet, I think i read that you don't really need a prototype to get a patent, however i really do recommend getting one. You can make a model of non-functional one or and a functional one. A model and or a working model helps alot, i doesnt need to be so fancey, as long as it does every "special functions". You should get a PPA about($80 b4 agent/attorney fees) before getting a real patent(a uilty patent can go up to or even more than 10 thousand). So you can save money, because maybe that invention wouldn't be so successfull.
After getting a PPA, go look for potential licensees, by going to thomasregister.com, its like a search engine and its as easy as google, that site has lots of American manufatures, it includes the manufactures adress and phone number. And buy a good inventing book and read it or read what you need, the internet is great too. oh yea there are some patent agents sites with live chats you can ask simple questions, as long as you dont say you dont want to work with them. |

Start by reading some books to understand the whole process.
You can find a good selection at: http://www.inventnet.com/bstore.html You can also read the Help section at: http://www.inventnet.com/help.html or read this article: http://www.inventnet.com/invention.html |

"lease the patent"? how can you lease what you haven't got? or maybe you want to get the patent first and then develop the idea? confusing first post.
if you have an idea, make a model as suggested. if that's a problem, you might consider approaching an Industrial Design student at an art school. they'll have facilities available to make something and will probably not charge you too much. -------------------- |

to the first poster, you don't need any prototype to file a patent. in some situations you don't even need a working model to prosecute your provisional patent application....
but your story is not complete, it is difficult to tell.. different individuals have different situations to overcome.... u see what i mean.. |
