Hello! I am new to the world of inventing and trying to make and sell my product. I have a question that I have not been able to find a concrete answer to so I am hoping someone here can help me out! How do you go about using someone else's product as part of yours? For example, if I were to make a shirt with buttons....obviously I cannot make my own buttons - so I would buy buttons from the store. Is that legal? It seems to me that I would have to ask someone for permission to use that button - wouldn't I? And if that is so, how does a person ever go about making their initial "rough draft" or prototype design to try and market? I know that I don't have the money to get permission and then pay a company for use of their product before I have even made my product once, let alone know if it will even sell! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! J. Cass

If you use items that are available for sale you don't need any permission, because you are paying for the items and you are not claiming them individually as an invention.
