Patent Application costs are related to how complicated is the invention itself and also what field or industry belongs to.

It also depends of who you go to, a patent agent is usually less expensive then a patent attorney... but it all depends of how busy(hungry) they are at any particular time. biggrin.gif

An application for a simple device may cost between $2,500 to $3,000 a complicated chemical invention may cost more than $10,000 and very few professionals can do it.

You can also do your own patent application and have it reviewed by a patent attorney or agent for about $800
Look for the Patent It Yourself book that teach you how to do it you can get the book here http://inventnet.com/bstore.html

Don't rush to patent your idea make sure first that it has a market and the market can be penetrated easy. You can also consider the Provisional Patent Application (PPA) it is only $80.00 and gives you the patent pending status for a year.

You can get info on PPA from the USPTO website. I've got the following link from the Help section at Inventnet.
http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/provapp.htm
You can also buy the PatentWizard software that will help you complete a PPA very easely.

I doubt it, becaue PPA are not really registered, they are basically forms that sit inside a file storage, to collect dust. If it was really registered it would carry a patent number like the traditional ones.

.
I am a new member for this site, but not new in the quest of the best idea becoming a moneymaker. I did have a product that I sold through QVC when they did their tour of the states. You can save yourself so much money if you will just take the time to read the inventor's bible Patent it Yourself by David Pressman. It is free at the library. That book helped me so much to understand the whole patent process. I also did my own provisional patent. Remember a prov patent is only an early filing date and the right to put patent pending on your product. It is not examined as a regular patent and gives you a year to file your regular patent. Your drawings do not have to be professional at all, but remember what you draw has to be the same on the regular patent later. You have to learn and take time to study what you need to do to get your idea out to market. Now, the reason I have joined this site is now I am doing designs for ideas with a cad cam drawing that would be needed in your regular patent and as a presentation of your idea as an actual product. If you would like info and prices you can contact me at bluelakedesigns2006@yahoo.com thank you Marjorie Hall member

Some "bad" USPTO examiners love to pick on individual who filed his/her own patents.

It happened to us.
After the first office action (rejection). We wrote a Crystal Clear response to office action.
and a few months later we got a final rejection. puzzle... I decided to let an attorney to handle our case.
Our attorney felt that the examiner didn't even read our
respond to office action carefully. He filed an amendment (plus one phone call) and within few months the patent was issued to us.
